EIGHT TICKETS. ONE EUROPEAN DREAM.
Women's Champions League 2026/27 | Four groups, fourteen teams and eight places among Europe's elite
The road to the Women's Champions League group stage begins on 9 October, with fourteen clubs competing for the final eight places in Europe's premier women's water polo competition.
From Berlin and Dunaújváros to Glyfada and Sabadell, four qualifying tournaments will determine which teams join the eight clubs already guaranteed a place in the main phase.
For some, qualification would confirm their established position in European water polo. For others, it would represent a historic breakthrough.
And across all four groups, the next generation of players will have an opportunity to prove themselves on one of the sport's biggest stages.
THE RACE FOR EIGHT
Eight tickets. Fourteen teams. Four host cities.
Between 9 and 11 October, the European women's water polo calendar turns its attention to Champions League qualification.
Olympiacos, Sant Andreu, Mataró, FTC Telekom, Vouliagmeni, Orizzonte, Roma and BVSC have already secured their places in the group stage.
The remaining eight spots will be awarded to the top two teams from each qualifying group.
For the six clubs that do not advance, the European campaign will continue in the Euro Cup.
Behind the qualification format, however, four very different sporting stories are about to unfold.
GROUP A | BERLIN
UVSE, Trieste and Spandau's home challenge
UVSE | Pallanuoto Trieste | Spandau 04
Three teams will compete for two qualification places in Berlin.
Hungary's UVSE and Italy's Pallanuoto Trieste enter the tournament with significant ambitions, but Spandau 04 have home advantage and the experience of reaching the main phase last season.
For Trieste, this is an opportunity to return to Europe's highest club level after losing to Rapallo in a penalty shootout during last season's qualification campaign.
In a three-team group, there is little room for recovery. One disappointing performance could determine the final standings.
Defensive consistency, control of the tempo and decision-making during crucial possessions will be essential.
GROUP B | DUNAÚJVÁROS
Three familiar contenders, only two available places
Dunaújváros | ZV De Zaan | Rapallo Pallanuoto
If there is one group where experience guarantees nothing, it is Group B.
All three teams competed in last season's Champions League group stage. This time, however, only two can advance.
Dunaújváros have home advantage and extensive experience in European competition.
ZV De Zaan return to familiar surroundings, having already demonstrated their ability to qualify from a demanding group.
Rapallo complete a competitive trio in which no team can take progression for granted.
For YARE, this is one of the most interesting groups from an analytical perspective.
Extra-player efficiency, goalkeeper performance and defensive discipline could ultimately decide which two clubs progress.
GROUP C | GLYFADA
Euro Cup holders Catalunya target a historic breakthrough
Ethnikos Piraeus | ANC Glyfada | EPlus CN Catalunya | Grand Nancy AC
One of the most compelling stories of the qualification round will unfold in Glyfada.
EPlus CN Catalunya arrive in Greece as the reigning Women's Euro Cup champions, having secured the first European trophy in the club's history during the 2025/26 season.
The Spanish side defeated Zodiac CNAB across the two-legged final, winning 27–20 on aggregate.
Just days before the Champions League qualifiers, Catalunya faced Olympiacos in the European Super Cup, gaining further experience against top-level opposition.
Now the objective is different.
Catalunya are attempting to qualify for the Women's Champions League group stage for the first time.
Standing in their way are two Greek clubs with their own ambitions.
Ethnikos Piraeus will be targeting one of the two available places, while ANC Glyfada will look to make the most of home advantage.
France's Grand Nancy complete the group and will be hoping to challenge the expected hierarchy.
Glyfada's opening match against Catalunya will provide an early indication of both teams' competitive readiness.
The bigger question, however, is whether the Spanish club can translate its Euro Cup success into a breakthrough at the highest level of European club water polo.
For Catalunya, qualification would represent another historic milestone.
For Ethnikos and Glyfada, it is an opportunity to claim their own place among Europe's elite.
GROUP D | SABADELL
A European powerhouse begins a new chapter
Astralpool CN Sabadell | CN Terrassa | Lille Université Club | GZC Donk
Sabadell enter this season's European campaign carrying the weight of an extraordinary history.
Eight-time European champions, the Spanish club remain one of the most established names in women's water polo.
This season, however, presents a different challenge.
With Enric Arnella leading the team and significant changes to the playing squad, Sabadell are working to establish a renewed sporting identity.
Home advantage at Can Llong places them in a strong position, but qualification cannot be taken for granted.
CN Terrassa are seeking a return to the group stage and another step forward in their European development.
Dutch side GZC Donk bring international experience and will be determined to compete for one of the two qualification places.
France's Lille will aim to challenge expectations against clubs with stronger European pedigrees.
Sunday's meeting between Sabadell and Terrassa could prove particularly important to the final standings.
For Sabadell, the objective goes beyond qualification.
It is about beginning a new chapter in the club's European story.
BEYOND THE SCOREBOARD | THE YARE WATCH
The Champions League qualifiers offer more than a battle for results and qualification.
They provide an opportunity to assess player development, performance under pressure and individual contributions in genuinely competitive environments.
Goalkeeper Impact
Crucial saves, penalty-shot performance and the goalkeeper's contribution to defensive organisation.
Centre Back Impact
Defending the centre forward, managing personal fouls, maintaining positioning and limiting the opposition's attacking options.
Extra Player Efficiency
Decision-making during numerical advantages, finishing efficiency and execution during decisive attacking possessions.
Next Generation Watch
Young players earning meaningful minutes against experienced international opposition.
YARE will look beyond the leading scorers to identify athletes whose contributions influence games without necessarily dominating the statistical rankings.
THE ROAD TO BELGRADE
The ultimate destination of this season's competition is Belgrade.
The Serbian capital will host the Women's Champions League Final Four in May 2027.
For the fourteen clubs beginning their campaigns in qualification, however, the immediate challenge is much closer.
Three days. Four groups. Eight available places.
Some teams will reinforce their position among Europe's best. Others will attempt to write a new chapter in their club's history.
And for several emerging players, this weekend could provide their first defining moment on the European stage.
Four groups. Eight tickets. One European dream.
WHERE WATER POLO LIVES. EVERY DAY.
