YARE NEXT | HUNTER DANKO

Sometimes the first signs arrive early.

For Hunter Danko, they are already beginning to appear during his freshman season at Pepperdine.

The 6'7" utility player produced nine goals and two assists across four games at the MPSF Invitational at Stanford, scoring multiple times in every appearance.

His most productive scoring performance came against Claremont Mudd Scripps, where he completed a hat trick.

But the offensive numbers were only part of his weekend.

Danko also recorded two steals and two field blocks, adding a defensive dimension to a tournament in which he was already becoming increasingly visible offensively.

The performance earned him the KAP7 WCC Newcomer of the Week award for September 22, the first conference weekly honor of his collegiate career.

MORE THAN NINE GOALS

For YARE, the interesting part is not simply the award.

It is the profile beginning to emerge behind it.

Danko is a freshman utility player from Henderson, Nevada, listed by Pepperdine at 6'7" and 225 pounds.

Before arriving in Malibu, his development included Team Vegas, Team Vegas and North Irvine, and San Diego Shores.

His youth résumé already contained signs of progression. Danko received an honorable mention at the 2024 Junior Olympics with Team Vegas 16U before earning All First Team Tournament honors at the Junior Olympics a year later with Team Vegas and North Irvine.

When Pepperdine announced its incoming Class of 2030 earlier this year, head coach Merrill Moses described Danko as a versatile attacker and utility player capable of influencing the game in multiple ways.

Now the first collegiate evidence is beginning to arrive.

THE NEXT STEP

Four games do not define a freshman season.

They do, however, provide an early signal.

Nine goals.

Two assists.

Two steals.

Two field blocks.

Multiple goals in every game of the tournament.

And a first conference award.

For a young player beginning his NCAA career, that is enough to make us pay attention.

The next question is not what Hunter Danko did during one weekend at Stanford.

It is what comes next.
