COMEN Cup U15: The Mediterranean’s Next Generation Meets in Monaco

France, Malta, Cyprus and Monaco take to the water today for the COMEN Cup U15. Six matches across three days give young internationals an opportunity to face different opponents and take another step in their development.

The Centre Nautique Albert II, within Monaco’s Stade Louis II complex, hosts the boys’ COMEN Cup U15 from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October 2026.

Four national teams are taking part: France, Malta, Cyprus and Monaco. The six-match schedule gives each team one meeting with every other participant.

France face Malta in the opening fixture, followed by Monaco against Cyprus. It begins a compact international test: three opponents, three days and repeated opportunities to adapt.

France prepare in Aix-en-Provence

France began their preparations on Monday 19 October with a training camp in Aix-en-Provence.

The Fédération Française de Natation describes the tournament as an opportunity for its young players to experience international opposition and continue their progress. Following today’s opening match against Malta, France meet Cyprus on Saturday and Monaco on Sunday.

That connection between preparation and competition adds an interesting dimension to their participation: how training instructions translate into match situations, and how the team adjusts its decisions against different defences.

Cyprus continue their journey

Cyprus have travelled with 15 players born in 2011 or later. National coach Giannis Fragkos leads the team, assisted by Felix Sidiropoulos.

Nikos Nikolaou is the head of delegation, with international referee Polydoros Filippou also accompanying the travelling party.

The trip follows the previous edition, hosted at the Nicosia Olympic Swimming Pool in November 2025. Cyprus return to the competition in an away setting, facing Monaco, France and Malta on successive days.

Malta led by Paul Privitera

Paul Privitera leads the Maltese team, as confirmed in the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta’s departure announcement.

Malta open against France, face Monaco on Saturday and complete their programme against Cyprus on Sunday.

For all four teams, the transition between matches forms part of the challenge. Adjustments after the opening day, managing fatigue and responding to a new opponent can provide useful information for their coaches.

The YARE perspective

Following an international U15 tournament means paying attention to the details.

A goalkeeper’s communication. A centre back’s positioning before the entry pass arrives. Movement that creates a passing option. A player’s decision to accelerate or retain possession.

The response to a mistake is equally revealing: the defensive recovery, the concentration and the willingness to take responsibility again.

A player’s first international impression is the beginning of getting to know them.

The COMEN Cup offers a clear opportunity to observe: six matches and four teams at an age when development remains open.

Starting today in Monaco, these young internationals have another opportunity to compete, adapt and learn. For YARE, they deserve the same attention in every position and every role.
