Brazil at PAN U19: Two Different Journeys, One Shared Target in Bauru

BRAZIL AT PAN U19

Two different journeys, one shared target in Bauru

Brazil’s men have opened the tournament unbeaten and have already produced one of its defining results against the United States. The women’s team has travelled a very different road, responding to early difficulties and showing its ability to adjust. In Bauru, two teams from the same country are writing two different stories.

The PAN U19 in Bauru is moving toward its decisive stage, and the host nation has already given us plenty to examine.

For the men, the story begins with four games and four wins.

For the women, it is about response, adjustment and what happened after the difficult moments.

And on both sides, several names are beginning to demand attention.

MEN | Four games. Four wins.

Brazil’s run so far:

Brazil 16–12 Canada
Brazil 28–10 Mexico
Brazil 20–19 USA, after penalties
Brazil 27–7 Peru

Four games.

Four wins.

But the most interesting part of that record is not simply the 4–0.

It is how those victories have been achieved.

It started with Danilo Martins

Brazil opened with a 16–12 victory over Canada.

Danilo Martins was named Player of the Match, immediately putting his name into the tournament’s scouting conversation.

Then came a 28–10 victory over Mexico.

Two games.

Two wins.

But the real examination was still ahead.

BRAZIL vs USA

The game that changed the picture

Against the United States, Brazil had to answer a different question.

Not simply whether it could score.

Whether it could survive a high intensity game against a team that had opened the tournament producing huge offensive numbers.

The answer came in one of the defining games of the competition so far.

Brazil 20–19 USA after penalties.

And one element stood out.

Brazil did not have a single offensive protagonist.

Fernando Gomes: 5 goals
Henrico Martins: 4 goals
Danilo Martins: 3 goals
Matheus Gabiolli: 2 goals
Thiago Rodrigues: 2 goals
Nicolas Zibecchi: 2 goals

The production was spread across the roster.

Against USA, Brazil didn’t need one player to carry the game. It found production across the team.

That may ultimately tell us more about this Brazilian side than the final score itself.

What happens after a statement win?

There is another test that comes after winning a game like that.

What happens next?

Brazil had just beaten the United States in a game decided by penalties.

Then it returned to the pool against Peru and won 27–7.

Henrico Martins scored six.

Danilo Martins added four.

Luca Avallone scored three and was named Player of the Match.

Four games had now produced four wins.

Different opponents.

Different types of games.

Different players stepping forward.

The same result.

WOMEN | A completely different journey

Brazil’s women’s team has followed a very different path.

Brazil 12–14 Canada
Brazil 20–5 Mexico
Brazil 8–14 USA
Brazil 16–13 Canada

Two wins.

Two defeats.

But 2–2 does not tell the full story.

From the opening defeat to the first response

Brazil began with a 14–12 loss to Canada.

It was not the start the host nation wanted.

The response was immediate.

Brazil 20–5 Mexico.

Maria Garcia was named Player of the Match as Brazil collected its first victory of the tournament.

Then came the biggest test.

The United States.

The USA test

The final score was USA 14–8 Brazil.

Brazil trailed 10–3 at halftime.

The game could have disappeared from there.

It didn’t.

Brazil responded with four consecutive goals during the third quarter and attempted to pull itself back into the contest.

Maria Garcia scored twice, while the Brazilian attack found goals from several different players.

It was not enough to overturn the result.

But it showed a response.

And the bigger response came in the next game.

BRAZIL 16–13 CANADA

The answer to opening day

Canada was the team that had beaten Brazil in the tournament opener.

When they met again, the story changed.

Brazil 16–13 Canada.

Maiah Nascimento scored five goals and was named Player of the Match.

Ana Beatriz Máximo also scored five.

It was 5–5 after the opening quarter.

Brazil moved ahead 8–7 by halftime.

The lead became 12–10 after three.

And Brazil eventually closed the game at 16–13.

This was not one sudden scoring run.

It was a gradual shift in control.

More importantly, it was Brazil answering a team that had beaten it only days earlier.

Brazil before the decisive stage

For the men, the early evidence points toward a team capable of winning in different ways.

It can create separation.

It can survive a high intensity contest.

It can go all the way to a penalty shootout.

And different players have emerged at different moments.

For the women, the story is about response.

Brazil lost to Canada and then beat Canada.

It struggled badly during the first half against the United States and then responded.

Across the opening days of the PAN U19, the team has started to demonstrate its ability to adapt.

Two teams.

Two different journeys.

One host nation playing in front of its own crowd.

Brazil’s story in Bauru is not finished. Its most important chapter is only beginning.
